"We were a tiny speck in the vast vista of the sea. For a moment the consciousness of the forces arrayed against us would be overwhelming. Then hope and confidence would rise again as our boat rose to a wave and tossed aside the crest in a sparkling shower like the play of prismatic colors at th foot of a waterfall." - Quote from Shakelton's Journal in the book Shipwrecked at The Bottom of the World
Just some cool pics of the icicles hanging from our roof the other day. :) The quote doesn't totally go, but I like the "prismatic light" reference and I have always liked this journal entry. It is neat to think that a rough tough sailor and explorer wrote such beautiful words and in such a dire situation.

Cleaning ladies
The Little Mermaid
Ella drew this picture of the little mermaid. She and flounder are swimming in the waves. She has scales on her green tail and she has a pink bra. She also has red hair and blue eyes. Eric is on his boat and he has brown hair and blue eyes. There are fireworks in the sky. She did all of this by memory from the movie. I think she did such a great job. She was so proud of herself.

In Memory of Grandpa Jones
by: Janel Graham
A man sitting in his boat
Fishing pole in hand
Sunlight on the water
A flash, a splash
The remaining ripple of where a fish just jumped.
A deer on the shore
A heron flies over
A beer in his hand
His wife smiles across the way
Grandkids squealing with excitement
A bobber disappears
“A quarter for the first, the biggest and the most,” he’d say.
A full boat
A full basket of fish
A full heart
A full life.
A man sitting in his boat
Fishing pole in hand
A stranger on the shore beckons to the man.
“Drop your net and follow me.”
“How do I follow you?” asks the man.
The stranger replies. “Believe.”
Out of his boat steps the man
and takes the strangers hand.
